b2ap3_thumbnail_team_20151113-170200_1.jpgOn November 13, 2015 the Journal & Courier listed Huston Electric, Inc. as the winner of the2015 Reader’s Choice Award for the category “Best Electrician”.  We are so thankful to have received this award for the last 5 years, since “Best Electrician” has been a category.

We were founded in 1939 by Donald and Julia Huston.  They worked out of a small office and barn located on Markland Ave. in Kokomo, Indiana.  Don got his start doing small electrical work while Julia prepared and delivered the billings after a day of teaching school.  At the start of WWII, Don had some copper wire on hand.  This was an integral part of being able to do electrical work as copper wire was rationed for the war, but because he had stock he could replace it as he used it.  In the early 70’s his son, David Huston, took over and ran the company as President & CEO before he passed away in 1997.  It was around this time that Huston opened an office in Lafayette.  Jon and Jason Huston currently manage our Lafayette location and are highly involved in the local community.  In recent years we have expanded by opening a YESCO Franchise, and office in Westfield, and a large format printing division in Lafayette – Eight38 Graphics.

Our roots are firmly planted in electrical contracting, but over the years Huston has expanded to offer our customers
a wide variety of services.  We have divisions in generators and compressors, telecommunications, signs and services, Control4 home and business automation and SMART interactive displays.  Our customers appreciate that we are able to help them with so many of their home and business needs, while having employees that are knowledgeable in
their specific division to ensure that the customer is getting the best service we can provide.

We owe our success to our hardworking employees and our phenomenal customer base.  Our employees have engaged themselves in the community and have had the opportunity to really become a part of this amazing area.  This community has embraced us and allowed us every opportunity to grow and serve and we
couldn’t be more grateful!

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_4196.pngCheck out one of our latest LED retro-fits at the Courtyard Marriott.  Huston’s Sign and Lighting division, YESCO Sign & Lighting provided an LED retro-fit on the Courtyard’s existing channel letters by removing the old neon and putting in new LED’s.  The neon had been failing for some time and after several repairs they decided to modernize the lighting to LED.  What a difference!  Now their lighting is consistent and bright all the time.

Could the lighting in your sign use some help?  Look no further than Huston/YESCO Sign & Lighting!  We can upgrade the old neon or fluorescent lighting in your signs to LED.  By switching to LED you’ll save on future service calls and your sign will stay BRIGHT all year long!  Of course LED’s provide a great energy savings too.  LED’s come with a five year warranty, three year warranty on power supplies, and one year free labor by Huston.  Call us today for your free estimate at 765-457-9137.

Huston/YESCO Sign & Lighting provides service you can count on.  Our skilled service staff is responsive and reliable whether trouble-shooting and repairing a hi-rise or small sign, replacing a burned out parking lot light, or quality-checking your location on a night patrol.  Our service professionals make sure your signs and lighting systems are doing their jobs.  Because we have the experts, equipment and ability, you can rest assured that your signs and lighting will convey the intended impression to help your business succeed.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IQ.jpgThe most advanced member of the hugely successful SMART kapp product family, kapp iQ is a sleek, ultra-high-definition display that enables game-changing collaboration for meeting rooms, breakout spaces, offices and classrooms. SMART kapp iQ combines the simplicity of the "walk-up-and-use" practice of the original SMART kapp whiteboard with an incredible, multi-way, multi-device collaborative experience.

Like the original SMART kapp, kapp iQ simply connects via any Android or iOS device. Users can then invite any Web-enabled device to join for unrivalled, real-time collaboration. Anything written on the display is shared in real-time with anyone, anywhere in the world. The magic with SMART kapp iQ is that participants can collaborate and contribute back in real time by making notes on their devices that immediately display in the collaboration session – making it the only multi-way, interactive display that combines the simplicity of a traditional whiteboard with the power of an ultra-high definition display.

This magical experience is accomplished without the need for IT involvement or the need to connect to a corporate network, meaning SMART kapp iQ is less costly to maintain than most front of the room displays. And just like SMART kapp, kapp iQ uses the existing SMART kapp app, but with upcoming iQ premium features, such as digital inking over content. In addition, because SMART kapp iQ uses the same panel technology as the SMART Board 6000 series, many existing customers will be able to retrofit their boards to acquire the power of kapp iQ.

"With kapp iQ, SMART is combining the simplicity of the whiteboard with the utility of a front of room display that often is left unused," said Zeus Kerravala, principal, ZK Research. "It's a unique solution that helps the agile worker collaborate easily whether it's ad-hoc or a formal sit-down session."

"Our new SMART kapp iQ display brings incredibly simple, walk up and use whiteboarding, multi-way sharing, and collaboration," says Neil Gaydon, president and CEO, SMART Technologies. "It embraces and connects the modern world, where multiple devices with different operating systems are in constant use. We are excited that it is going to revolutionize the regular meeting display and collaboration experience."

The SMART Kapp IQ is available in June. Contact Joel Fenske at Huston Electric to Pre order yours today.

b2ap3_thumbnail_peru2.jpgHuston is thrilled to have worked with Peru Schools over the past two years in updating the signs at each of their schools – Peru High School, Peru Junior High, Blair Pointe Elementary, and Elmwood Elementary.  Each school now has their own full color Daktronics electronic message center.  Huston turn-keyed each of these projects by providing new sign bases (excavation, concrete, steel supports), the electronic message centers, identification cabinets with the school names, electrical, cabling, wireless communication, and in-person software training.

The message centers are great for providing information to students, parents, and staff on upcoming events at each school.  The full color graphics and animations are eye-catching and are a fun way to keep the community informed on school activities.  The staff at each of the schools do a fantastic job at keeping the content of the signs up to date.

Huston Signs provides and installs electronic message centers, channel letters, architectural letters, monument signs, pylon signs, neon signs and blade signs.  Huston has physical locations in Kokomo, Lafayette, Westfield and Indianapolis, Indiana.

b2ap3_thumbnail_chrystler_interactive.jpgHuston continues their partnership with Chrysler LLC providing Interactive displays for the new Tipton Transmission plant.

Hustons Technology division has been working closely with Chrysler on multiple Interactive displays at various Plant locations. Recently Huston’s SMART Interactive displays were purchased to do a  “virtual walk through” of the transmission plant using 3D BIM Modeling. Technology like this can help companies review and make any needed changes on the spot during the construction phase, saving a lot of time and money.

b2ap3_thumbnail_jane_Pauley.jpgHuston was given the opportunity of creating and installing a new sign for The Jane Pauley Community Health Center. Hustons team chose to go with a illuminated, face-lit channel letters style. In a clever twist we devised a way for the letters to appear black and bold during the day and bright and white at night. We were able to make this possible by using a special perforated vinyl.

We, at Huston, were excited for the opportunity to work with Marc Hackett on this project.  We believe strongly in branding and the power of marketing using nice bright and bold signage that both delivers a message during the day as well as night.  The Jane Pauley Community Health Center does an excellent job of branding their business and we are thrilled to be a part of their new location.

b2ap3_thumbnail_signage_20150728-144405_1.jpgHave you been by Financial Builders Federal Credit Union lately?  Chances are you’ll hardly recognize it!  Financial Builders has changed the whole layout of their parking lot which now offers parking space at the front of the building instead of just the sides.  During this exterior overhaul they decided to update their signage and called Huston for help!

Financial Builders knew they wanted a sign with an electronic message center to advertise to people driving past on Lafountain and another one to advertise to customers waiting in the drive thru lanes.  From there, Huston’s graphic designer provided several renderings for design options.  Once the design was decided upon Huston worked closely with Perkins Contracting and, together, brought the monument sign design to life!

Perkins provided the stone base and pillars while Huston provided the signage for the monument.  The electronic message center is a Daktronics Full Color 16mm that is housed in an aluminum cabinet with routed sign faces and push-thru acrylic lettering for “FINANCIALbuilders” “FEDERAL CREDIT UNION”.  The method of routing the faces and using push-thru acrylic makes for GREAT illumination of the lettering which really stands out!

Huston also provided a Daktronics Full Color 16mm electronic message center over the drive-thru canopy.  This way, customers who are waiting can view the promotions and specials that FBFCU is offering—all from the comfort of their vehicle!

It takes a lot to make these types of signs functional and Huston specializes in turnkey installations.  Who do you know that can provide electrical conduit, CAT5 cabling, wireless communication, IT programming, and in-person software training?  Huston is the answer!  Call us if you are ready to begin planning signs like these for your business!

b2ap3_thumbnail_b2ap3_thumbnail_PERU.pngThe students, parents, and staff at Peru Community Schools are now enjoying a new full color electronic message center at the Middle School! This summer Huston replaced their static changeable copy reader board with a new full color Daktronics LED digital display. Schools often give announcements over loud-speakers for students to hear information and also mail monthly newsletters to their homes, but now they are able to communicate with parents and students daily using the digital sign. School administrators can now publish information on the sign regarding sporting events, extra-curricular activities, and more to keep students and parents informed on school events.

Huston also provided Peru’s High School with an electronic message center in January of 2013 and it has worked out so well that they decided to do the same for the Middle School. Huston has been a long-time electrical contractor for Peru Community Schools and we are privileged to work with them on their signage needs as well.

If you feel your business could benefit by advertising your products, specials, and sales on a new electronic message then please contact Samantha Milburn at [email protected].
